Tutors
Leon Conrad
is a highly experienced tutor, specialising in working with gifted and talented, profoundly gifted, and alternatively abled students (dyslexics, dyscalculics, etc).
Dr Susanne Sklar
loves teaching and is happy to offer tutorials and seminars in which great books are closely and creatively read. She’s especially interested in William Blake’s work, and sacred texts from many cultures – from ancient Sumeria to the Lakota Sioux. Apocalypses can lead to wisdom and joy!
Leon helps students develop their understanding of what they learn about the world around them, encouraging them to seek original answers and solutions to problems by developing a deep connection with word and number.
Specialising in working with gifted and talented, profoundly gifted, and alternatively abled students (dyslexics, dyscalculics, etc), Leon teaches foundational skills - numeracy (mathematics, geometry, algebra, and specialist dyscalculia support), logic, critical thinking, and language (communication, composition, comprehension, creative writing, storytelling), drawing on his ground-breaking approach to working with story structure as outlined in his multi-award-winning book, Story and Structure.
He teaches English at all ages, beyond degree level; Maths to GCSE; logic and creative thinking for 11+ upwards (younger for gifted and talented students on a case-by-case basis).
Dr. Susanne Sklar teaches literature, religion, peace studies, and performance to people of all ages and from many walks of life. She specialises in the painting, poetry, and prophecy of William Blake.
Her doctorate (Queen’s College, Oxford), explicating William Blake’s illuminated masterpiece, Jerusalem: The Emanation of the Giant Albion, became a book which was splendidly received.
Additionally, Susanne has written about Mary Magdalene, and apocalyptic literature, especially the Book of Revelation.
For many years (before tutoring at Oxford and in London) she taught at Shimer College near Chicago, where undergraduates grappled with the great ideas in great books, in lively discussion classes. Some of those undergraduates were 15 or 16 years old.
‘We looked for an 11+ tutor ... then we came across Leon. We decided to go with him and this was the best decision ever.
In the words of our son, “He is flexible, relaxed, and his teaching style helped me improve my creative writing and grammar a lot. A lesson with Leon feels like an exploration. Learning is not a chore; it is interesting.”
As a parent, I was so glad to see my son engaged and taking control of his work. When he started Year 7, his English teacher gave him an excellent mark for his creative writing. Two years ago, his English teacher told us that he was operating below age-related expectations. What is remarkable is not so much the improvement - but that he enjoys it. Leon not only got him up to speed, but showed him how to love what he does. I am so grateful that teachers like Leon do exist.’
Recent testimonial
11+ Preparation ... and beyond
September 2021 - testimonial from parents of a student who was a reluctant reader, poor at English at the start of the tutorial process, following which he was successful at gaining a place in his first choice school in his 11+ exams and went on to continue with creative writing for fun during the rest of his time in Year 6.

Reviews
“Leon is wonderfully fresh, enthusiastic, and lateral in the way that he makes each lesson work to keep our daughter enthused, whatever the ups and downs. I am looking forward to working with him over the next year as she reaches the end of primary school.”
Feedback from parent of 9-year-old preparing for 11+ exams
“Mr Conrad has far exceeded the expectations my husband and I had for a tutor, by expanding the minds of my children with out-of-the ordinary techniques. He believed in them and allowed them to develop, going far beyond exam techniques. We very highly recommend him.”
Parent of siblings preparing for 11+ and 13+ entrance exams
“Thank you very much for recommending Leon, he has been of tremendous help and it has been a pleasure interacting with him. His teaching is not just about exams, and he helped our son so much looking into himself and expressing himself. Thank you again. I wish you a lovely summer.”
